This is a complete list of all the Medal of Honor Winners from Berks County. In 1996 the month of February, annually, was designated by the Pennsylvania Senate as "Pennsylvania Elks Patriotism Month". As you can see, all Berks are Civil War era.

GRAUL, WILLIAM: Reading, Corporal, Company I, 188th Pennsylvania Infantry.
Fort Harrison, Va., 29 September 1864. Citation: 6 April 1865. First to plant the colors of his State on the fortifications.

SANDS, WILLIAM: Reading, First Sergeant, Company G, 88th Pennsylvania
Infantry. Dabney's Mills, Va., 6 & 7 February 1865. Citation: 9 November 1893. Grasped the enemy's colors in the face of a deadly fire and brought them inside the lines.

SCHEIBNER, MARTIN E.: Born in Russia. Private, Company G, 90th Pennsylvania
Infantry. Mine Run, Va., 27 November 1863. Citation: 23 June 1896. Voluntarily extinguished the burning fuse of a shell which had been thrown into the lines of the regiment by the enemy. http://www.nauticom.net/www/civilwar
